You’re Invited: Talkback for The Dignity Circle
Now playing at Central Works Theater located in the Berkeley City Club
It’s a pretty special thing to go to a play and then get to talk about it with people who also want to better understand what they just saw and heard and felt. Whether it’s validating or provoking, part of experiencing theater is actually the discourse driven by it. That’s the beauty of the art form. You get to experience a thing and, sometimes, it affects you.
So yup, see the play then come through, in a few weeks. We’ll be hosted at the collaborative working/creating space, Haven Hall, close by in Emeryville. We also got a discount code for our peeps, so sign up and you’ll see it in your confirmation.
If you’ve never been, Central Works is pretty awesome. Not only is it in a historic building, it’s up close and personal. Just the way we like it. This piece is directed by Company Co-director, Gary Graves, whom
and I have the honor of starting our theater journey with. His developmental workshops are a critical component to the Central Works Method. If you fancy yourself a playwright, stop working by yourself, and apply! Finally, we’re so stoked to see our dear playwriting co-conspirator, Lauren Smerkanich, bring this piece to life. In development, I was struck by how well Lauren represents the rhetorical arguments and emotional manipulations that can affect people, especially women in exploration of self worth. The weaponization of wealth building is a common thread in social media and it’s cool to see The Dignity Circle paint a disastrous portrait of just how bad things can get when your cup isn’t full. It also may include some network effects aided by technology in it, too, just sayin’.
So if you want to dive in with us, join us for the talkback. Lauren’s willing to be there virtually, but only if our circle is worth it 😉
