Keeper Quotes from Meisner Training
Kudos to my fellow classmates and THANK YOU to our instructor!
I didn’t realize when I sent an email to friends asking about (Subject Line:) Movement/acting/voice instruction a few days after Thanksgiving in 2022 that I would get fully immersed in Empowerhouse’s comprehensive Meisner technique training. I had never taken an acting course and wrongly assumed that I’d be seated in a circle in uncomfortable stacking chairs staring into the eyes of strangers for a few weeks.
Instead, I stared at an array of individuals dedicated to craft while learning the repetition exercise in order to delve into the endless possibilities of our instruments.
Two years later we graduated and it was glorious ✨
As a reflection, I reviewed my notes for “Keeper Quotes” and wrote them into origami fortune tellers for a little bit of random inspiration to unblock my creative peers in their pursuits.
And here they are for your benefit (in no particular order):
The seed to the craft of acting is the reality of doing.
The specifics are what take you to your artistic soul.
Relationships are not played, relationships are earned.
An ounce of behavior is worth a pound of words.
Preparation is a type of day dream.
Every moment has a meaning.
Use the truth of who you are to find what actives you.
Don’t do anything unless you’re made to do it.
Maybe they’ll spark something for you. They were incredibly useful when reviewing our work in class and I always appreciated when Melissa, our courageous and kind instructor, reminded us of them. It’s really rare to build close relationships in a classroom in later years of life but to have a patient and trusting guide throughout the process of unwrapping the prize deep inside our instruments was really special. I hope the same for any of you. Check out Empowerhouse if you feel the itch to give acting a try! 🤗
